A support system for ‘Getting Better’

Judy Hasheider has enjoyed her journey so far with the Getting Better program. She’s reached some personal goals and her health has improved.

Judy Hasheider knew she needed to get healthier. With her doctor’s encouragement and referral, Hasheider decided to try the Getting Better program. Getting Better is a group wellness program. It is a collaborative research project funded by SPMHC and Getting Better, LLC. 

“I went there not really wanting to do it at all,” said Hasheider. “I remember the first night I went I said ‘I feel like I’m coming to the guillotine’.”

That was the first step in Hasheider’s year and a half journey with the Getting Better program.

The Getting Better program lasts for two-and-a-half years. The groups are small and participants are referred by their physician.

For many people in Getting Better, the goal is to simply feel better. Some struggle with weight and chronic diseases like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes or metabolic syndrome, making it difficult to exercise.
